Since the kids've got the Wii, you're purchasing a new console for exclusively you ?
I've never bought a console because I do PC games so I can't help you on that end !

Yes It would be just for me but the kids could play if I got kid friendly games. I am also a pc gamer as well, maybe buying more memory and games for my pc would save me hundreds of dollars. I think another gig of mem would be around $30 US.

Forgot one big thing - the PS3 (not Ps 3) has a built in blu-ray movie player. If you've got a HDTV, and are willing to buy blu-ray movies, you'll be able to play 'em.

That would be good for my Hdtv but I really don't care if the movies are HD or not. A bad movie is still bad even when its in blu ray/
